Set in the largest medieval barn in the UK, Material: Wood – Design and Inspiration celebrates the designers, makers, artists and artisans working in this remarkable material today.
Alongside pieces by Eleanor Lakelin the exhibition features works by modern masters such as: Grant Aston, Fred Baier, Emma Buckmaster & Janet French, Sebastian Cox, Chris Eckersley, Thomas Heatherwick, Luke Hope, John Makepeace, David Nash, Howard Phipps, Jonty Sale, Petter Southall, Wycliffe Stutchbury, Jago Treays, Jeroen Verhoeven, Gareth Neal, William Warren and Nic Webb.
“As a country, we produce some of the best quality and greatest variety of woods but also some of the most forward thinking and creative minds working with it as a material’ said Johnny Messum, Director of Messums Wiltshire. “From the bog wood cabinets of Thomas Heatherwick, to the coppice wood constructions by Sebastian Cox, we are home to some of the world’s most progressive makers and designers, whose works are not only beautiful objects, but metaphors for a shift towards objects that resonate with a different value – that of Time.”
